3D Projects
Mobile Identity 2013 – etched photopolymer plates, welding rods, spinners, key rings & toothpicks; c. 60x60cm
This project entailed making 21 objects in 21 days reflecting personal identity. Influenced by Alexander Calder, whose mechanical sculptures were first called 'mobiles' by Marchel Duchamp in 1931.
Printmaking Projects
Regent Honeyeater 2013 – reduction linocut, 5 states, c.15x15cm
First attempt at reduction linocuts, part of a small collection of threatened species. Reduction linos are known as 'suicide prints', as the block is destroyed in the process of making.
Clancy 2013 – linocut palimpsest with solar plate etching, c.30x30cm
First linoprint project for ART00622, a portrait of Clancy. Influenced by Heather Shimmen, attempting a pastiche of her mark-making.
After Sargent 2013 – scroll saw woodblock with collage, c.30x30cm
First use of scroll saw, image is segmented, collaged with glued paper, sand and glue spots then printed in relief. This image was palimpsest with underlying print of caustic soda etch.
Elle 2013 – reduction linocut, final state, c.30x30cm
One of the challenges of reduction lino is anticipating the changes in appearance of colour and tone as progressively darker layers are applied. The first picture shows second state, with two layers applied, the second is the final image.
Tideline 2013 – copperplate etching, printed in relief, 10x15cm
First copperplate etching, made using drypoint drawing on bitumen resist, etched and printed in relief.
Kentia 2013 – multiplate copperplate etching with aquatint, 15x10cm
3 plate copperplate etching: first a key line drawing, with red and green aquatinted plates as second and third separation. Kentia palms originated at Lord Howe Island, many were transported to Europe in the 19th century.
